"Technologies and the media are key to social awareness and Education citizenship". This was stated by J. Ignacio Aguaded, director of group Comunicar and professor at the University of Huelva, at workshop Educar para la Comunicación y la social service of the University of Navarra.

In this line, he explained that "in the face of the problems generated by interacting with screens - whether privacy problems or other subject- the only possible solution is a 'media literacy' that allows us to understand and establish intelligent relationships with these media".

To achieve this, he stressed the following: "This mission statement is not only the task of the school, but families, the media and civil society itself have a lot to say". He added that "there is currently a lack of global policies to facilitate this task".

Education and citizenship

The workshop Educate for Communication and the social service of the School of Philosophy and Letters of the University of Navarra constitutes the conclusive meeting of one of the projects of the line of research 'Education and Citizenship', directed by Professor Concepción Naval.

quotation At the opening of the meeting, which was attended by more than 30 experts in Education and media, participated José Iribas, deputy mayor of Pamplona City Council, who said that "society cannot be built from the top down, but from the bottom up"; and José Ramón Bultó, president of committee Audiovisual of Navarra, who said that "today no one doubts the sociabilized importance of the media".

Concepción Naval, Vice President of the University of Navarra and professor of department of Education of the academic center, also intervened and explained that "the goal of this workshop is to contribute to define what characterizes and what motivates an adequate Education for communication and social service. I hope that this exchange of ideas can be used to improve educational internship ". To which he added: "I hope that this will be another step towards the elaboration of a pedagogy of citizenship, which has as its central core the social and civic skill ".
