Elisa Rodrigues de Araújo, professor at Master's Degree in Marriage and Family, special guest at the commemoration of the 650th anniversary of the Anglo-Portuguese Alliance.

Professor Elisa Rodrigues de Araújo, Ph. Master's Degree in Marriage and Family of the University of Navarra of the subject Human Rights and Family Rights. She is founder of the association New Dialogue [ANDI], which seeks to promote human rights and social values for peace, necessary between the dialogue between nations.

Last June, Rodrigues de Araújo played a leading role in a historic event held at St. James's Palace (London), at framework to commemorate the 650th anniversary of the Anglo-Portuguese Alliance, the oldest diplomatic alliance in the world still in force. The Alliance was formally established by the Treaty of Peace, Friendship and Alliance, sealed in London on June 16, 1373, by King Edward III of England and King Ferdinand of Portugal.

The event was attended by H.M. King Charles III of England, the President of Portugal Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the patrons of the commemorations organized by Portugal-UK 650, and the highest authorities of both countries. The professor of Master's Degree was invited to the event for promote actively promoting human rights and social values for peaceful coexistence and necessary for the dialogue between nations.

The opening speech was at position by Maria Joao Araújo, President of Portugal-UK 650 and Professor at Oxford University. The ceremony took place in the Queen's Chapel, and featured a reading in English by the Duke of Wellington, and a reading in Portuguese by the Master's Degree lecturer in Marriage and Family. The ceremony was enlivened by a musical repertoire of pieces by Portuguese and English composers, performed by the Royal Choir, directed by Joe McHardy, and by the Queen's College Oxford Choir, directed by Professor Owen Rees.

Portugal-UK 650 is a civil society initiative that has organized the commemorations of the 650th anniversary of the Alliance. One of its main objectives is to contribute to a better world by promoting, especially among the younger generations, the founding values of the Treaty of Alliance: the values of peace, friendship, truth, fidelity, constancy, sincerity, kindness and solidarity.

In this context, the association Nuevo Dialogo has been the organizer of workshops to promote these social values during the commemorations (2019-2023). It has organized dozens of workshops for all ages and at partnership with the Jubilee Center for Character and Virtue of the University of Birmingham, which has developed teaching resources on the values of the founding treaty of the Alliance, particularly on friendship.
