This June 16th marked the 25th anniversary of the publication of the White Paper on Early Intervention , a document that marked a turning point in early childhood interventions. "The first years of life count, and a lot. They are a stage core topic in it development human, since during this period the instructions "of biopsychosocial growth" explains Miriam. She also adds that "the brain in childhood is especially sensitive to the experiences of the environment and what happens, or does not happen, in these years can significantly influence the development future".

The publication of this document in 2000 allowed the establishment of a consensual definition of the term, understood as the researcher points out, as "the set of interventions directed at children from 0 to 6 years old, their families and their environment, with the goal to respond as quickly as possible to the needs of children with disorders or at risk of suffering from them.”

Early Intervention has evolved significantly, so that what began as an intervention from a perspective of correcting deficits, from the clinical and rehabilitative field, today has a "broader and more directed view towards the development comprehensive child development, allowing for greater family participation and empowering them to make choices," Cirauqui notes. He continues: "This development has led to a new approach , the Family-Centered model , in which families and primary caregivers are the fundamental pillar of the intervention, and not just companions of the process .”

This 25th anniversary should be celebrated and takes on special significance for all the progress we've made. It should also be a day to "remember the need to continue fighting, for and with children, but also with them." It's about committing to a more just and inclusive society. "Because investing in Early Intervention is investing in the present to transform the future," the researcher concludes.
