"We are more willing to enjoy the benefits of consumption than to seek the enrichment of renouncing the unnecessary", in favor of others, or the natural environment. This was pointed out by the environmental biologist Jordi Puig, before a capacity of more than fifty people who participated in the January seminar of the group 'Science, Reason and Faith' of the University of Navarra.

During the seminar, the professor of the School of Sciences suggested, from an environmental sensibility today mostly non-Christian, seven aspects in which a very fruitful convergence with Christianity can be found.

His exhibition developed step by step this thesis : "Every natural reality, because it exists as it is, in a natural relationship with me and with others, has material and moral value: it compromises. It does not admit arbitrary use, and asks to be cared for and enriched by living... me".

"We are called to multiply and give, not to deplete and hoard."

Professor Puig pointed out that we have not yet developed and have not yet proposed a culture that seeks not only to enrich ourselves, but "to enrich ourselves but always enriching" others and the earth, in every time and place. "We are called to multiply and give, not to exhaust or hoard, which is the easy way for the material enrichment of a few."

He concluded that the Christian "is always called to be converted, also in subject environmental and distributive justice, intimately intertwined as the encyclical Laudato si' has pointed out". And that this attitude of conversion, to which Francis calls, "offers an optimal climate of meeting with the environmental culture, which has much positive to contribute and teach the Christian".
