The University and Deloitte launch a digital regulation and technology observatory

The Observatory was born with the vocation of being a space for reference letter in the knowledge dissemination of programs of study, reflections and scientific production on current issues in the field of digital regulation, management of the data, technology and artificial intelligence.

The University of Navarra and Deloitte have signed an agreement agreement of partnership to develop a pioneering Observatory of digital regulation and technology in Spain. In view of the irruption of artificial intelligence and the abundant regulation in the digital field, the Observatory has as goal to be a space for reference letter in the knowledge dissemination of programs of study, reflections and scientific production on current issues in the field of digital regulation, the management of the data, technology and artificial intelligence.

To this end, the School of Law of the University of Navarra and the signature of professional services Deloitte promote this Observatory that will be based on three fundamental pillars: the research, the knowledge dissemination and the training in the digital and technological field.

The Observatory aims to carry out a rigorous research through the interdisciplinary partnership of academics and professional experts in different sectors, from law, consultancy service, risk, digital markets and finance to engineering and quantum computing. Thus, among other areas, artificial intelligence, robotics, digital markets and infrastructures, data economy, e-government, metaverse or cryptoassets will be studied.

Likewise, the Observatory will have a group of experts formed by professionals and academics, specialized in technology, consultancy service, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and with the legal and fiscal field.

The Dean of the School of Law, Mercedes Galán, has valued the partnership with Deloitte and emphasized: "The creation of this Observatory is part of the commitment of the School for the interdisciplinaryresearch in the field of digital law and new technologies, with the help of experts and professionals from different fields". For his part, Eduardo Valpuesta, Full Professor of Commercial Law and director of the Observatory has appreciated: "Today a large part of social relations is carried out through digital technologies and data that involve enormous changes with respect to the traditional forms on which our regulatory regime is still based. This is why the work to be carried out by this Observatory is necessary, which aims to be a forum for study and publication of scientific articles that will allow us to be up to date in the regulation of new technologies and digital markets, as well as to promote the training of students and professionals in this field".

Javier Echániz, partner manager of Artificial Intelligence and Data at Deloitte, added: "We are in a changing regulatory environment and highly impacted by technological advances that increase disruption in different sectors and corporate areas. Now more than ever, companies are facing new transformation challenges that will allow them to obtain a differential competitive position in the market thanks to the irruption of new technologies and artificial intelligence".

For its part, Rodrigo Gonzalezpartner of Deloitte Legal, has pointed out: "With the approval of several regulations at the European level (DSA, DMA, Data Act, IA Act, among others), it is more relevant than ever to have an space for analysis and study about these changes that will undoubtedly have a significant impact on Economics and society in general."     

Bet on the research, the knowledge dissemination and the training

In the field of research, the purpose is to generate publications, articles and scientific material that analyze digital regulatory changes, industry trends and the impact of regulation and technology on the business environment.

In the section of knowledge dissemination, the goal of the Observatory is to reflect and share perspectives on regulatory and economic changes in forums of discussion, conference of work and sessions of knowledge dissemination for professionals and students of law and other academic disciplines. In addition, training in Digital Law will also be offered to students and professionals operating in the digital regulation and technology sector. In this regard, the Observatory's framework will host the I Challenge in Digital Law, a competition for final year students of degree program on a Digital Regulation case open to all Schools Spanish.
