A seminar on the internationalization of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem
Organized by the ICS, it dealt with the insertion of this Navarrese priory in the Mediterranean maritime concert during the Middle Ages.
The Institute of Culture and Society- ICS- of the University of Navarra has celebrated the international seminar "Power and internationalization in the Order of St. John of Jerusalem (Age average): The Navarrese priory in the Mediterranean context". The objective of the congress was the scientific discussion on the insertion of the Navarrese priory in the maritime concert of the Mediterranean during the Middle Ages.
It was developed in two parts conference, the first one began with the intervention "Historiography of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem in its Mediterranean context: areas and contexts of research", at position by Professor Julia Pavón, from the University of Navarra. This was followed by presentations by international researchers such as María Bonet, from theRovira i Virgili University; Judith Bronstein from the Israeli University of Haifa; Victor Mallia-Milanes, from the University of Malta; Wifredo Rincón García from CSIC and Julia Baldó Alcoz from the University of Navarra. The researchers analyzed in depth the context that gave rise to the internationalization of the Navarrese priory, through the treatment of the Mediterranean scenario of the Middle Ages, the evolution of the religious institution, the artistic heritage and the architectural configuration of the order.
The second workshop was developed with a visit guided by Julia Baldó and Emilio Quintanilla of the University of Navarra and Javier Martínez de Aguirre of the Complutense University of Madrid, through the priories of Navarra. It began in Cizur Menor and continued through Eunate, Torres del Río, Aberin, Sangüesa and Leache, where the seminar culminated.
