Every October 24, different countries celebrate International Library Day, a workshop that invites us to recognize the essential role of these spaces in the transmission of knowledge and the preservation of cultural report .
At the Center for programs of study Josemaría Escrivá we would like to join in this celebration by highlighting one of our most significant projects: the Josemaría Escrivá and Opus Dei Virtual Library. This digital space brings together an extensive collection of books, articles, documents and audiovisual resources dedicated to the history of Opus Dei, its founder, and the numerous initiatives promoted by its members over time.
In coincidence with this date, we present the launching of From our Virtual Librarya new podcast promoted by CEJE that invites you to discover, analyze and comment on books about the history of Opus Dei and the people who played a leading role in it.
Each episode offers a close and suggestive reading of works that are part of our collection, with the purpose of bringing the bibliographic heritage to a wide audience. The first episodes include one dedicated to the history of the library itself and others focused on books such as Historia del Opus Dei by José Luis González Gullón and John Coverdale, or El hecho inesperado by Inmaculada Alva and Mercedes Montero, among others.
Virtual Library Services
Over the years, the Virtual Library has established itself as a reference letter source for researchers, historians and readers interested in learning more about the origins and development of Opus Dei in the context of the Church and contemporary society.
It currently has more than 15,000 bibliographic records and more than 8,000 documents in PDF format available for enquiry and open download. Its holdings include articles from scientific journals, chapters from books and collective works, and publications by Josemaría Escrivá in several languages.
