The project "Personalized modulation of the microbiota through smart design of foods and ingredients from enterotype-based diagnostics (NUTRIBIOTA)", in which the research center in Nutrition (CIN) of the University of Navarra collaborates as an organism of research , has been one of those selected in the call for strategic projects of research and development 2018 of the Government of Navarra.

This project, with a duration of nearly three years and a budget of 1.7 million euros, is based on the hypothesis that the intake of certain foods rich in various active ingredients can modulate the microbiota and thus improve the health status of the population.

The leader of project is Industrias Alimentarias de Navarra S.A. (IAN) and three other companies of great relevance in the agri-food business network of Navarra, such as Isanatur, Aceites Urzante and Ultracongelados Virto. They are accompanied by two organizations of research historically involved with the agri-food industry and of great scientific recognition, such as the National Center for Food Technology and Safety (CNTA) and the University of Navarra through three of its groups: the research center in Nutrition (CIN), the group of research in functional foods (CAF) and the Genomics Service of CIMA LAB.

Strengthen the partnership between the business network and the system of research and development+i of Navarra.

All the entities in the consortium share the vision that health-oriented food can provide opportunities for differentiation and value creation. In this line, this project will provide scientific information that will allow participants to address new business lines (specialized product ranges, production of ingredients and extracts) and new products (fortified foods, plant extracts) focused on improving health through food.

In addition, this project will allow the establishment of synergies among the participants that can be exploited in the future, strengthening the partnership between the business network and the scientific-technological system of Navarra.

The grants for the implementation of strategic projects of research and development aim to promote the implementation of high impact projects that are aligned with the sectors identified in the Strategy of specialization Intelligent (RIS3) of Navarra (automotive and mechatronics, food chain, renewable energy and resources, health, integrated tourism and creative and digital industries). The goal of this initiative is to mobilize companies in strategic sectors through reference letter or tractor entities, with the potential to lead this subject of projects. In this context, the project NUTRIBIOTA has been C at framework of challenge 4, Personalized and Sustainable Food (ALPES).
