216 students start their programs of study at School of Medicine

The new students come from 20 different nationalities and 35 Spanish provinces, and 73 of them will study the Degree in Medicine + International Program.

On Wednesday, August 28th, School received the 216 students that make up the LXVI graduating class. The new students come from 20 different nationalities such as Colombia, Chile, United Arab Emirates, USA, Philippines, Holland, China, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Mozambique, Nigeria, Peru, Portugal, United Kingdom, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland and Thailand and 35 Spanish provinces, including Navarra, Madrid, Guipúzcoa and La Rioja. Of these, 73 will take the Degree in Medicine + International Program. This is the fifth promotion since the implementation of the new Study program adapted to international standards and which has the International Quality Seal of the World Federation for Medical Education.

On their first day, the students participated in a workshop in which different professors of the School introduced them to their university life. "In this Olympic year you are starting what is perhaps the most important degree program of your life," said Dr. Marta Ferrer, dean of the School. "For this you can count from today on of all , of the professors, of your ... because the good thing about this is that, in the end, you are all going to achieve your medal. "For this you can count from today on the financial aid of the entire School, of the professors, of your advisor... because the good thing about this degree program is that, in the end, you are all going to get your medal".

Along the same lines, Dr. Ignacio Herrero, Associate Dean of academic staff and postgraduate program, reminded the new students of the leading role they have in their training as doctors: "Medicine is a tough profession: now you will have to study hard, then you will have to go to spanish medical residency program, the shifts and even the overbooking at enquiry. For this reason, it is essential that you get used to studying all your life to be always up to date and to face in the best way that complicated case that we do not get of a patient we want to help".

Physicians beyond mere technical expertise

During the workshop, the humanistic training that characterizes the University of Navarra, which complements the acquisition of technical knowledge, was highlighted. Thus, Ricardo Piñero, director of the Institute Core Curriculum, encouraged the students in their mission statement to contribute to solving the social problems of our time through the search for truth, dialogue and enrichment with other disciplines.

Meanwhile, Dr. Mar Cuadrado and Dr. Leire Arbea, Vice-Deans of Students and innovation in education, presented the pathway of Education Medical and project RIM, a new portfolio that will begin to be implemented this year and will allow students to collect and reflect on their experiences and training activities throughout the Degree.

Learning styles and methodologies 3.0

After listening to advice and tips from students from higher courses at roundtable, Dr. Nieves Díez, first year coordinator, helped the new students to determine their learning style staff in order to get the most out of each subject. In the afternoon, the new students did a storyboard and dynamics of group with different challenges to start getting to know each other.
