"In the last 25 years the world has changed radically and new technologies have been a vehicle core topic that has enabled and accelerated this transformation". This was explained today by the chairman of Telefónica Latin America, José María Álvarez-Pallete, during the session he gave at the University of Navarra on the occasion of the Rafael Termes Lecture.

In this regard, the president of Telefónica Latinoamérica placed special emphasis on the significant changes that the telecommunications sector has undergone in recent years and the opportunities that arise in the new environment, especially if we change the way we look at it and deal with it: "The world is changing faster every day. We used to talk about years to massify the use of new technologies, but today in just one day there are more than half a million new users in social networks and millions of blogs are updated every second".

Faced with this new reality, where the digital society demands that everything it needs is available from any device and at any time, companies like Telefónica "must not only adapt to the new context, but also be at the forefront of change, transforming and continuing to innovate to maintain its leadership". And, for sample, he highlighted an example: "It is expected that in the coming years the demand for telecommunications services will grow significantly in the field of machine-to-machine (M2M) connections, which means that there will be millions of connected devices in sectors such as automotive, smart meters, points of sale ... And in this new reality, the innovative role of operators is essential to provide the necessary platform and manage the transmission of data, thus remaining at the forefront of the industry.
