"This scholarship represents a real and direct financial aid towards our training and professional future that we will not forget", says Lucas Orihuela Martínez-Costa, student 5th year Medicine student and one of the 42 students of the University who have received this year the scholarship Global Internship Program, granted by Caja Rural de Navarra and the Foundation business University of Navarra.
The Global Internship Program encourages university students to carry out professional internships in non-EU countries. This year, the chosen destinations were Argentina, Brazil, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, United States, Japan, Mexico, Panama, United Kingdom and Venezuela.
At the ceremony of submission of the diplomas, the president of Caja Rural de Navarra, Ignacio Terés Los Arcos, pointed out the importance of having an experience abroad: "Caja Rural is very clear that this work experience that you are going to live is a very important part of your training. It will help you to grow as people, to get to know new points of view, new ways of doing things. A unique experience that you will remember forever".
For her part, the University's president , María Iraburu, congratulated the scholarship recipients and considered the values shared by the University of Navarra and Caja Rural de Navarra: "I like to think that we share three passions. The first one is the love for this land, the vocation to serve the local development . We also share a passion for the global world, and that is that people and institutions should be like trees: with deep roots but with branches open to the world. The third passion is each of the people who are here, the young talent, each one with your illusions and those qualities that make you unique".
The scholarship holders, registered in Navarre, the Basque Country or La Rioja, belong to the School of Engineering - Tecnun (18), the School of Architecture (1), the School of Sciences (8), the School of Communication (2), the School of Economics and Business Studies and Law (1), the School of Education and Psychology (2), the School of Pharmacy and Nutrition (1) and the School of Medicine (9). The selection of the scholarship holders takes into account the academic transcript , the level of language of the host country, the curriculum and the quality of the training offered by the internship business .
University talent around the world
Most of the internships, which are managed through Career Services, the University's Careers Office , will take place this summer, although some of them have already taken place this year. The latter is the case of Irache Baines Aldave, 3rd year student of the Double Degree Degree in Pedagogy and Education Primary, who did her internship during the first term of the year at North Davis Preparatory Academy (NDPA), a high school located in Layton (Utah, USA): "Thanks to this experience I have realised that teaching is what really fulfils me and makes me happy. A overseas study period enriches you and somehow changes the way you look at life," she says.
Lucas Orihuela, who thanked the partnership of Caja Rural and the University on behalf of all his colleagues, will carry out a clinical stay in August at the department of Emergency Medicine of the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital (United Kingdom). "Receiving the scholarship means a deep gratitude and the security of having the confidence and support necessary to continue learning and training during the university summer," she says.
Renewal of the partnership agreement
In addition to the diploma ceremony submission , Caja Rural de Navarra renewed the agreement that has linked it to the University of Navarra for more than 25 years. "We have been collaborating for a long time in projects at training through scholarships, support for entrepreneurship, sport, research and volunteer activities. As we did last year, we will continue to support and work for sustainability at Campus and to focus on sustainable mobility ", says Ignacio Terés Los Arcos.
María Iraburu thanked Caja Rural de Navarra for its partnership with the University: "With Caja Rural's aid we cover areas that show that the training offered by the University is three-dimensional, with the aim of helping you, our students, to develop yourselves and to ensure that your personal and unique talents are then put at the service of society. That is what we all want, that the University, with financial aid of companies like Caja Rural, offers the world those people who change it for the better. We will continue to do things together to achieve a fairer, more sustainable, friendlier and more humane place in which future generations can also enjoy and grow".
