444 undergraduates will study this academic year 2024-25 at the University of Navarra thanks to a scholarship Alumni. Of these, 386 are Spanish (145 from Navarra) and 58 are international students from 16 countries: Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, France, Honduras, Hungary, Italy, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.

The academic center held a welcome ceremony for these students, chaired by the Vice President of Students, Rosalía Baena, with the participation of Raquel Lázaro, professor of the School of Philosophy and Letters; and Eugenia Ciordia, Alumni scholar and student of 3rd year of International Relations and Law.

The Alumni Scholarships, created in 2003 with the goal that any talented student can study at the University, are supported thanks to the contribution of companies, friends of the University, alumni and other people and institutions that believe in the project of the academic center, constituting a great chain of gratitude.

"We want to celebrate that we have come this far, that we have launched the program for another year. We want to mark this moment as important: it is an occasion of arrival after a long chain of efforts by many people," stressed the Vice President.

Likewise, Rosalía Baena asked the scholarship recipients to make the most of every minute of their university experience and emphasized their bond with the institution. "The University somehow has a special trust placed in each of you. We ask you to be especially aware of what you have. You bear a special stamp; you can make an excellent work ."

The welcome ceremony for the Alumni scholarship holders was chaired by the Vice President of Students, Rosalía Baena, with the participation of Raquel Lázaro, professor of the School of Philosophy and Letters; and Eugenia Ciordia, Alumni scholarship holder and student of 3rd year of International Relations and Law.

An amount of almost 4 million euros

The amount allocated to Alumni Scholarships this year is 3,992,241 euros. The average amount per scholarship is 8,991.53 euros, dedicated to enrollment and accommodation. On the other hand, the University has set as goal for its 75th anniversary the raising of an additional 15 million euros that will allow for 75 perpetual scholarships. They are so called because the amount earmarked for them comes from an endowment, a portfolio of assets that serves to finance the program on a stable basis. During the last academic year, the University received 5 donations constituting 5 funds from Alumni Scholarships Perpetual .

Eugenia Ciordia from Pamplona, a student of the double Degree in International Relations and Law, and who has obtained the scholarship for the third year, gave a speech during the ceremony. "Today I come here to remind you how lucky we are to be Alumni Scholars," she said. The student stressed the importance of thanking donors: "Those of us who study at this University are lucky. And of all of us, those of us who are part of project from Alumni Scholarships even more so."

The extra effort required by the scholarship, according to Eugenia, "is core topic seen as a challenge, not as a burden: it is the perfect opportunity to learn to give 110%, to not settle for the minimum, to aspire to excellence, to overcome adversity". "Hopefully in a few years we will still be brimming with gratitude for our university and, if we can, we will give back some of the gift that has been given to us," the scholar concluded.

Professor Raquel Lázaro, for her part, advised university students to make the most of their time: "Let the university pass through you, let it be a chirp of training that will shape your lives. It is necessary to be attentive to what is important, not to be in a hurry. To be a university student is to enroll in a millenary institution of knowledge".
