"It is relatively frequent, even in the scientific literature, that an identification is made between the so-called argument of design and the fifth way of St. Thomas. However, a careful reading of both arguments sample shows us that there are notable differences between them". This was stated by the professor of the University of Navarra, Santiago Collado, on the occasion of his participation in the January seminar of the group 'Science, Reason and Faith' (CRYF) of the University of Navarra.

Professor Collado, who has studied and published some texts on the "Intelligentdesign ", first introduced the contrast between the teleological argument of St. Thomas and the argument of design. In this sense he spoke of teleology and introduced the argument as presented by St. Thomas, then he exposed a typical text of the argument of design and, finally, he offered some brushstrokes of the intelligent design as a particular case of the argument of design.

In this sense, he assures that although both arguments are based on the order present in nature, "in each case it is a question of a different order subject ". Likewise, he points out that "the two differ in the subject of purpose on which they are based and in the conclusion they reach". Therefore, the arguments "are in no way comparable and some authors even see them as opposites".

His exhibition gave way to an intense colloquium in which several members of group 'Ciencia Razón y Fe' and other attendees took part.
