On May 24, 25 and 26, the Palacio del Condestable hosted a series of conferences on "Gothic in Navarra". The Chair of Heritage and Art of Navarre, different professors -co-authors of a book of the same name that came out a few months ago-, presented the Gothic in Navarre from the architectural, sculptural and painting points of view.

Carlos Martínez Álava, doctor in History and professor of the I.E.S. Mendillori, opened the cycle with the lecture "The introduction and diffusion of classical Gothic architecture". He took as examples the Collegiate Church of Roncesvalles, the Church of Santiago in Sangüesa or Santa María de Olite -one of the oldest Gothic buildings preserved in Navarre-. accredited specialization also deserved special mention in his exhibition the monasteries of La Oliva, Irache, Iranzu and Fitero, as well as the Cathedral of Tudela. With more than 200 photographs, Martínez Álava explained how difficult it is to explain whether one is in front of a late Romanesque, pre-Classical Gothic or Classical building at discipline .

The professor explained the importance of the shapes in columns and capitals, arches and vaults, and emphasized the role of the master masons, who used sketchbooks and whose faces appear "perched on the capitals of the columns and are hardly perceptible from below". He made a special stop at the architectural explanation of the Collegiate Church of Roncesvalles, from the first quarter of the 13th century, and its subsequent restoration and redecoration after having suffered three fires. It is "a work core topic of Navarrese Gothic", he said. He emphasized its forms, of marked Parisian influence, as well as its crypt, which preserves the original paintings of the 13th century.

The series continued with presentations by Clara Fernández-Ladreda, professor at the University of Navarra, Javier Martínez de Aguirre, from the Complutense University of Madrid and Carmen Lacarra Ducay, from the University of Zaragoza.
