high school María Blanco , a professor at the University of Navarra, has become a new member of the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE), one of the most important associations in the biomedical engineering sector.

Non-profit and based in Washington D.C., it represents 50,000 professionals. Its College of Fellows integrates nearly 1,500 recognized leaders, engineers, entrepreneurs and innovators in the area field of medical and biological engineering, who are considered the top 2% in the field. Of these, only 5% are foreigners.

"Joining AIMBE is a motivating recognition of work and the efforts we make at group of research. When a person is awarded for his or her research activity, the whole team behind research is recognized. In addition, a few days ago the day of girls and women in science was celebrated and this subject of distinctions gives visibility to the role of women in science", comments the researcher of the School of Pharmacy and Nutrition.

Expert in nanomedicine

Professor María Blanco is the author of more than 140 articles in scientific journals, 5 patents, 19 chapters in different specialized books and more than 200 communications in congresses, many of them as an invited speaker . Her H index is 50 and her papers have been cited more than 8,000 times. She has directed 20 doctoral thesis and has been principal investigator of 32 projects. She is an expert for the European Commission in the area of nanomedicine and evaluator in several national and international organizations.

She actively participates in scientific knowledge dissemination activities in schools and institutes, as well as for adults through different organizations. She is a corresponding member of the French National Academy of Pharmacy and the Galician Academy of Pharmacy, as well as a member of committee publishing house of several scientific journals, including "Cancer Letters" and "Journal of Controlled Release". Her research has received several awards from both national and international entities. 

She is also vice-president of the committee Executive of the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Scientists (EUFEPS) and president of the Spanish Society of Industrial and Galenic Pharmacy (SEFIG).
