Two professors of the University of Navarra have been distinguished by the Ministry of Health with the Encomienda de la Orden Civil de Sanidad. They are the professor of the School of Medicine Gonzalo Herranz and the Associate Dean of the School of Pharmacy and director of the Pharmacy Service of the University Clinic, Joaquín Giráldez.

Professor Gonzalo Herranz, Full Professor of Pathology, is currently Professor of Medical Ethics at department of Humanities Biomedical School of Medicine. He has developed numerous works as president and secretary of the Central Commission of Deontology of the Organización Médica Colegial de España. He has been vice-president of the Ethics Commission of the Permanent committee of the Doctors of the European Community and of the World Federation of Doctors who respect human life. He has also belonged to the committee Directive of the Pontifical Academy for Life and to the committee International Bioethics, of the UNESCO. He received the award Humanist Doctor of the Year of Spain (1995).

He was also a member of the group of work that drafted the Principles of European Medical Ethics of the lecture International Order of Physicians (1986-1987) and president of the Commission of essay of the Spanish Code of Medical Ethics and Deontology.

Pioneer in the introduction of the "unidosis" system.

Joaquín Giráldez is Associate Dean of research of the School of Pharmacy and Full Professor of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Technology, in addition to directing the pharmacy service of the University Clinic.

He was a pioneer in the implementation in Spain of the "unidosis" system and in his department he directs research works on dispensing and management of medicines, clinical pharmacokinetics and artificial nutrition, among other topics. He is currently president of the National Commission of Hospital Pharmacy and board member of the committee Nacional de Especializaciones Farmacéuticas.
