Ana Zúñiga Lacruz (Pamplona, 1985) has defended her doctoral thesis "Mujer y poder en el teatro español del Siglo de Oro: la figura de la reina" at the University of Navarra, under the direction of Professor Miguel Zugasti and in the framework of the lines of research of the GRISO (group of research Siglo de Oro).

In it he analyzes the character of the powerful woman in 265 golden plays, in which 196 figures appear: 178 queens and 18 princesses and infantas. The study begins with an introduction in which she reflects on the concepts of authority and power, and on the vision of women at that time; specifically, of the reigning female figure.

Subsequently, under the heading "Typological classification", he analyzes this theatrical character according to its intrinsic nature and the characteristic features by which it stands out.

The second section, "The image of the queen: projection, qualities and attributes", examines her recurrent features, the environments in which she moves, how she develops her personality and the way in which she exercises power according to her political position. Also included are some reflections on the rhetorical-stylistic patron saint , the costumes, the play of masks or the scenic arrangement.

In "La reina según géneros" this character is associated with certain attributes that respond to the limits of the generic framework (auto sacramental, tragedy, burlesque comedy, etc.). The thesis closes with a recapitulation of the essential features of this theatrical figure and with conclusions.

The panel, formed by Nieves Baranda Leturio (UNED), Héctor Brioso Santos (Universidad de Alcalá de Henares), Antonio Cortijo (University of California, Santa Barbara), Arturo Giráldez (University of the Pacific) and Carmen Pinillos (Universidad de Navarra), unanimously awarded the thesis of Ana Zúñiga the grade of "A cum laude".

professor Starting next year, she will join the new School of Education and Psychology of the University of Navarra, where she has received her academic training as a philologist and journalist.
