Dr. Jesús Prieto Valtueña, Full Professor and Full Professor of General Pathology at the School of Medicine of the University of Navarra, will receive an honorarydoctorate from the Universidad Austral(Argentina) on December 12. This is his second investiture, as he was previously named honorary doctor by the University of Oporto.

Professor Prieto is a graduate in Medicine and holds a PhD from the University of Valladolid, training which he completed at the Royal Free Hospital in London. At present, he is consultant of the Internal Medicine department of the Clínica Universidad de Navarra and director of the Hepatology and Gene Therapy division of the Applied Medicalresearch center CIMA).

His research activity, focused in the area of Hepatology and in the development of new therapeutic approaches for liver diseases, has earned him, among others, the "Cándida Medrano de Merlo" award and the gran award Bial, for his contributions on gene therapy in liver cancer. He is the author of more than 300 original papers in international scientific journals and 25 chapters in books of the specialization program. He has been a member of the Scientific committee of the European association for the Study of the Liver and President of the International committee of the American Society for Gene Therapy.
