Nearly 60 professors from the School of Philosophy and Letters participate in the first edition of FYLnnova

A total of 59 professors from the School of Philosophy and Letters participated in the first edition of FYLnnova. Organized in partnership with the Quality and Innovation Service, the workshop, aligned with two of the axes of the Strategy 2025 of the University of Navarra -"Education transforming" and "Interdisciplinary University"-, has had as goal share teaching experiences and promote innovative learning methodologies teaching and learning.

"This initiative arose to give visibility to the renovation professor that is being worked on at the University and more specifically at School. Through different sessions and workshops we wanted to show that we are able to establish a dialogue between traditional and new methods, from our humanistic disciplines. Because we cannot live with our backs turned to the new profile of university students, young digital, international and creative people; we must connect in a real, direct, applied, formal and academic way with the interests of society," explains Julia Pavón, dean of the School. 

Held at the Palacio de Olza, the first session was held at position by Professors Leire Arbea, from the School of Medicine, and Cristina Tabernero, Vice-Dean of Philosophy and Letters, who held a conversation around the strengths of a well-integrated teaching . The professors were able to raise several questions and reflections, generating an interesting discussion. The attendees then had the opportunity to participate in three workshops on "experiences of interaction with the student body", the "good use of teaching materials" and "active learning in the classroom". This last session was given by Javier Azanza, professor of Art History, who has assured that active learning "must combine the continuous monitoring of the teacher with the autonomy and self-knowledge of student". "The important thing is not the methodology used, but the precise definition by the teacher of the objectives to be achieved," he said. He assures that this workshop has been useful for him to "identify and define some guidelines of my teaching, among them that the conceptual tool is above the concrete data: "It is not the brick that matters, but knowing how to build the structure", as Antonio Álvarez-Ossorio said in this regard". Full Professor speaker degree scroll In his lecture "In Praise of the Theoretical training ," a member of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and member of the Madrid Institute for Advanced Study, Álvarez-Ossorio was the main speaker at the workshop, with a session entitled "In Praise of the Theoretical ".

"In addition to fostering a very enriching dialogue among our professors, this meeting has been a great opportunity for reflection," says the dean. "Through the various sessions and workshops, teachers have been able to learn about cases of success and failure in the development of an innovative teaching , linked to the field of Humanities, as well as to see the possibilities that can investigate to give more strength to their capacity professor, so that it has positive results in student learning," she explained. On the other hand, he highlighted "the very high involvement of the Quality and Innovation service in the preparation and development of workshop. In just one morning, we were able to transmit the main ideas and promote the development of creativity professor among our teachers". "Throughout the course, we want to work on specific aspects and we hope to hold a second edition next year," he concludes.
