Leyre Sánchez de Muniáin and Fernando Aniento, winners of the I edition of the University's New Longevity IDEA Awards Chair

The young people have been recognized for their Final Projects Degree and Master's Degree, dedicated to the research of Alzheimer's disease and the problems associated with menopause, respectively.

result L eyre Sánchez de Muniáin from Pamplona and Fernando Aniento from Valencia have won the first edition of the Chair IDEA New Longevity Awards of the University of Navarra. The young people, who are now undertaking their doctoral thesis , have been awarded for their Final Projects Degree and Master's Degree, both developed in the School of Pharmacy and Nutrition of the University of Navarra. The submission of the awards, held in the Institute for Culture and SocietyThe award winners, Ana Marta Gonzalez, director of the Chair IDEA; Rafael Sanchez Ostiz, director of the IDEA Foundation; and Carolina Montoro, researcher at Chair attended the ceremony.

Sánchez de Muniáin, a graduate in Pharmacy from the University of Navarra, where she is doing her thesis , has been recognized for her End of Degree work Degree directed by Maite Solas: Impact of Astrocytic Insulin Receptor Deletion on Pathological Markers in Alzheimer's Disease. "I am passionate about researching Alzheimer's disease and the recognition of the significance it can have is an impressive motivation, especially because I continue to investigate the topic in my doctoral thesis . The work done is recognized and gives us energy to advance in all that remains to be done", explains the doctoral student.

For his part, Aniento, graduate in Biotechnology, has been awarded for his final work of the Master's Degree European in Food, Nutrition and Metabolism of the University of Navarra. The proposal, directed by María Jesús Moreno and Pedro González, addressed the Influence of gut microbiota on cardiometabolic health and response to exercise in overweight and obese postmenopausal women. "It is an honor to have received this award, both for me and for the tutors and all the people who have collaborated. This recognition puts in value all the work done and it is positive to have contributed", emphasizes Aniento, who in January will begin her doctoral thesis at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili, in Tarragona.

Ana Marta González explains that this competition is an opportunity to "raise awareness among the university community and society about the importance of addressing demographic change and the challenges posed by new longevities, both from the point of view of health as well as social and cultural".

Thus, he points out that "in some sectors, there is still no clear perception of the importance of this change and what it means in terms of adapting our living habits, health and organization of urban life". And he stresses that these works "address very close issues that have a great impact on the daily lives of many people. They are an example of the fact that talking about new longevity involves all disciplines". In this sense, Rafael Sánchez Ostiz points out that "we are in a very aging society and, in order to change things and tackle a phenomenon as complex as aging, it is essential to act in the younger stages and in all disciplines".
