A score of 3rd year medical students from the University of Navarra have been trained for four days as volunteers at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes (France).

The students attended on their own initiative, encouraged by the chaplain of School, Dr. Juan Ramón García-Morato, and by the professor Dr. Jorge Iriarte. The latter belongs to the committee International Medical Association of Lourdes, an organization made up of thirty European and North American doctors, in charge of studying unexplained healings.

Once in Lourdes, the students were welcomed by Dr. Alessandro de Franciscis, head physician of the Sanctuary, and made themselves available to the volunteers who work there on a daily basis. Carlota Mayor, one of the students from Pamplona, explains that the areas of action focused on where the need was greatest: "in the swimming pools, helping the sick and elderly to dress and undress; supporting a group of pilgrims from La Coruña; and picking up sick people from the train station to take them to the Shrine".

What began as an isolated experience of a group group of friends and classmates, aims to become a continuous action over time. "The idea is to participate as School in the diocesan pilgrimage that takes place every year from Navarra", emphasizes Carlota.
