Dr. San Miguel, award International of research in Hematology for his professional career.

The Clinic's medical director received the recognition during the 57th Annual congress of the American Society of Hematology (ASH), held recently in Orlando, Florida (USA).

Dr. Jesús San Miguel, medical director of the Clínica Universidad de Navarrahas been distinguished with the Celgene International Career Achievement award for his research in Hematology. The award was presented during the 57th Annual congress of the American Society of Hematology, held the first week of December in Orlando (Florida, USA). The distinction is in addition to the doctor's recent appointment as president of the International Myeloma Society.

During the congress , Dr. Bruno Paiva, researcher of the Departments of Hematology and Immunology of the Clinic and of the Applied Medicalresearch center (CIMA) of the University of Navarra, was also awarded the Future Leaders in Hematology prize.

Dr. San Miguel has been awarded in the Career Achievement category, for his entire professional career, a distinction with which the organization of the awards aims to recognize "the contribution to clinical research and international hematology". The awards were presented by the biotechnology company Celgene.

The decision was made by an independent review committee composed of Dr. Bart Barlogie, University of Arkansas Medical Center (USA); Dr. Ronald Levy, Stanford University (UK); Dr. Kanti Rai, Long Island Hospital Jewish Medical Center, New York (USA); Dr. Keiya Ozawa, Medical Science Institute, University of Tokyo (Japan); and Dr. Valeria Santini, University of Florence (Italy).

Dr. Jesús San Miguel's dedication and submission to the study and understanding of hematological diseases have earned him the award. The current director of Clinical and Translational Medicine at the University of Navarra is also president of the International Myeloma Society, member of the committees of the European Hematology Association, the Leukemia Research Foundation, the International Myeloma Foundation and the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.

At the national level he is a member of multiple scientific committees such as the Institut d'Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer (IDIBAPS), the Institute of Biomedicine of Seville (IBIS), the Carreras Foundation, Pethema, etc.... His scientific production translates into more than 700 international publications, 140 national publications and numerous monographs and contributions to books (more than 30 chapters in international books).

Dr. Bruno Paiva, award for a promising trajectory

Dr. Bruno Paiva has been distinguished with the Future Leaders in Hematology award for his great contribution to hematology research in recent years. He currently combines his work as a researcher in the department of Hematology and Immunology at the Clínica Universidad de Navarra and at the Center for Applied Medical ResearchCIMA) with that of director of the Flow Cytometry Core and scientific coordinator of the CIMA Lab Diagnostics.

His main research interests focus on differential diagnosis, risk stratification and follow-up of patients with onco-haematological tumors, especially monoclonal gammopathies (MGUS, asymptomatic and symptomatic multiple myeloma, Waldenström's Macroglobulinemia or amyloidosis), as well as acute leukemias and lymphoproliferative syndromes.
