My experience managing people (MDPO students)

On January 20, as part of the Master's Degree Personnel Management Service Organizations at the University of Navarra, we welcomed alumni Master's Degree returned to classroom share their experiences in recruitment processes, searching for internships, and their first years of development .

With diverse backgrounds in organizations such as EY, PwC, Swissport, and L'Oréal, they shared lessons learned from their internship, offering particularly valuable insights given their proximity to the stage we are currently at as students.

One of the key messages of the session was to understand the selection process a two-way process: it is not just about being evaluated by the business, but also about getting to know the organization, its culture, and its ways of working, and assessing whether there is a real fit. In this regard, the importance of conscious and honest preparation was highlighted: knowing your CV well, being able to explain real experiences, relating them to learning and skills, and adapting your speech the context of the position and the sector in a coherent and authentic way.

Another core topic proactivity, understood as well-directed initiative: showing genuine interest, asking questions, nurturing networking, and building professional relationships naturally. As students, we took away the idea that professional visibility is built on a daily basis and that every interaction can become a learning opportunity.

The session also addressed some of the most common challenges in the early stages of a career, such as lengthy processes, lack of feedback, and the onset of imposter syndrome. Hearing that these feelings are common—and that they are part of development allowed us to normalize them and face them with a more realistic and constructive perspective.

From our perspective as students, this meeting helped meeting to better understand the internship process, providing us with specific tools to manage uncertainty, adjust expectations, and better understand the reality of work organizations.
