A graduate in Biology from the University of Navarra receives one of the 2010 Chamber of Commerce Scholarships.
Raúl Catena will receive 60,000 euros to develop programs of study from postgraduate program abroad.
Raúl Catena (Pamplona, 1981) is graduate in Biology and PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Navarra. Since 2009 he is training at the department thoracic surgery of the Weill Cornell Medical College (WCMC) in New York as a postdoctoral researcher .
The 2010 Chamber is in its third edition this year and is endowed with 60,000 euros. It will allow Catena to extend his stay in the United States for a longer period of time. Specifically, the biologist will be able to continue researching the molecular and cellular mechanisms that govern metastasis to the lung and, specifically, what happens in the case of the lung subjected to chronic inflammation processes, as is the case of patients with COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), asthma or other pathologies.
The results of this research have a very important impact, since the population at risk is very high.
