The 16th edition of Science, Technology, and Innovation Weeks was unveiled at a joint event held at the Pamplona Planetarium, attended by the Friends of Science Club, the Public University of Navarra, the Pamplona Planetarium, and the University of Navarra, represented by the Dean the School of Science, Luis Montuenga.
This year all the collaborating entities will offer different activities -such as workshops, conferences, guided tours, shows or exhibitions- that will take place between November 7 and 16, all of them with the same goal: the promotion of scientific vocations among students and the dissemination of science and the work of scientists among society in general.
The program will start on Monday 7 at the University of Navarra with the experimentation sessions for students and with the talk "Are you breathing safely at home?", at position by the professor of Chemistry Jesús Miguel Santamaría. In the afternoon, at 5:30 p.m. at place del Castillo, the traditional joint opening will be held, where the participating institutions will perform live experiments for all audiences.
Superheroes, physics in Sanfermines, superbugs, birds of prey and vaccinesBetween Tuesday the 8th and Monday the 14th, five more lectures will be held in the auditorium the School of Science the University of Navarra. Presented in an accessible style and open to the general public, the first of these, "Chemistry Comics: Superheroes in Re-action," will be given by Professor José Ramón Isasi, who will explore whether it is possible to become a superhero without the help of Chemistry.
On Wednesday 9th, David Gonzalez, from department of Microbiology, will talk about "The threat of superbugs", and on Thursday 10th Iker Zuriguel, from department of Physics, will subject the attendees to a macroexperiment to explain why people and sand particles behave in a similar way in the lecture "Learning Physics in Sanfermines".
Finally, on Friday 11 Luis Lezana, from the Tierra Rapaz park, will help "Understanding the bird of prey: from chick to adult" and Nacho López-Goñi will close the cycle on Monday 14 with the talk that earned him one of the 2016 Naukas awards with "We will save your life: vaccines work", which will also take place at 12 30 h. but at the auditorium of the Science Library.
On a daily basis, the fifth floor of Hexagon Building will host workshops to "touch" Chemistry, physics and biology, and guided tours will be organized to the CIMA and the Museum of Natural Sciences.
