Nearly 190 students from the School of Philosophy and Letters participate in the Essentials program during the first semester of the course.

After its launch at the beginning of the academic year, a total of 187 students of the School of Philosophy and Letters have participated in Essentials, the training program that seeks to improve the employability of our students and provide them with the necessary skills and tools for the search for employment.

After a semester of sessions, in which students have learned about such diverse issues as effective resume essay , management their Linkedin account, searching for internships, or getting to know themselves and others, the balance, according to Cristina Terroba, career manager of the School of Philosophy and Letters, is "very positive": "There has been a lot of participation. Of this first semester, I would highlight the subsequent counseling, since each student is preparing employment search tools with guides and in advance, for example, their CV or LinkedIn profile . They have also shown great interest in self-knowledge issues". She also pointed out that "the students have welcomed the program very well, especially those in the first years. They have integrated it into their academic life, because it is a very complementary internship training , and they have valued it very much".

attend He encourages students who have not yet signed up, especially those in their final years, to attend the training sessions scheduled for the coming months: "We will focus on very useful skills for the summer selection processes: elevator pitch, interview simulation and dynamics of group, among others. The status is complicated, but the more prepared they are, the better: they will have the confidence and skills to demonstrate their talent to companies".

"These first sessions of the Essentials program have meant a contact with the professional reality. With the help of the speakers, we have had the opportunity to enter little by little into the world of work, which sometimes scares us. In the sessions they have explained to us step by step how to successfully reach that possible employment or those internships.

The one I enjoyed the most was "Understanding other realities". The speaker talked about how important it is to empathize with others and taught us to identify an emotion with certain gestures.

We are so grateful to have financial aid from so many professionals who have invested their time in helping us prepare well for all that lies ahead. Also, having these sessions makes you feel more confident and secure about your future."

"The first sessions of this course have helped me to consolidate some of the knowledge I already had. For 4th grade students, as is my case, it has been a review of what we have seen, for example, in Career Week.

The session I enjoyed the most was "I want to do internships, where do I start?" because internships have always interested me and I have always moved to do as many as I could. In this session, we delved into internships that can introduce you to experience in a particular field.

I think that having this subject training is a good way to prepare for the working world. Learning how to use tools such as the CV, the Linkedin profile or social networks is becoming more and more necessary when looking for a work".

"When you are in the 4th year of degree program you see your professional future closer. These sessions make you think about your goals and have an overview of your career options.

All of them have been very productive, but "Connecting with oneself" is one of the ones that have had the greatest impact on me. Knowing oneself, knowing others and taking into account important values such as empathy is a fundamental part of a professional future.

Having a program like Essentials is very revealing, because from the first years they give us tools to leave the university more prepared. Career Services guides us to perfect aspects such as our résumé, our network of contacts on Linkedin, or to look for internships that help us broaden our horizons. However, the most positive thing about this program is that we feel accompanied in this process".

"Having sessions on different aspects important for my future career allows me to keep a steady pace of work oriented to the working world. It is possible that otherwise I would not have started so early, or that I would have skipped intermediate steps that might have seemed irrelevant to me. For example, thinking about what are my qualities or my aspects to improve, what I can contribute, making an action plan, specifying my ambitions, making a network of contacts and start thinking about doing an internship, writing my CV and keeping it updated... Besides, apart from the sessions, I have highly valued the subsequent advice staff .

These sessions have made me see the importance of starting from the beginning to be proactive, to be clear about where I want to go and what the path is. The one I liked the most was the one about internships. They conveyed very well their importance, why to do them from the first year and the process to get them".

"I consider it useful that from the first year of degree program the professional paths that we can choose and how to opt for them are shown. The Essentials program is providing me with a training internship of what is not specifically taught in each subject. 

I think all the sessions are relevant and complement each other, but if I had to choose, I would say that the one I liked the most was the explanation of the CV.

It seems to me that having this subject of training is not only positive but absolutely necessary for our professional future".
