The research center in Nutrition of the University of Navarra has launched a research to test the efficacy of a nutritional supplement in people between 65 and 80 years of age who are independent to carry out activities of daily living.
"This study has a duration of eight weeks and consists of eating a normal, balanced diet and having clear autonomy for daily activities," explains Dr. Marta Cuervo, principal investigator of project. "The volunteers' involvement is very simple, as it only requires taking a nutritional supplement containing vitamins, minerals and proteins, which we think can improve their nutritional status."
To evaluate the effectiveness of the supplement, a complete study of the physical-nutritional status of the participants will be carried out , both at the beginning and at the end. "We have included a nutritional test Biochemistry (including vitamins and minerals), which will provide us with some very interesting markers that are not detailed in the usual analyses," says the researcher. In addition, an anthropometry and body composition study will be carried out to determine the weight and percentages of total fat, abdominal fat, muscle, bone, water, etc. The physical condition of the volunteers will also be measured by means of three simple tests adapted to this population group .
The study will begin the second week of January, so those interested in participating can contact contact with the research center in Nutrition at the e-mail voluntariosnut@unav.es or by leaving a message on the answering machine of the telephone number 948 42 57 57 44.
