The Science Museum of the University of Navarra, in partnership with the group Women for Science and Technology and the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) / Ministry of Science and Innovation, has organized several activities -free and for all audiences- to commemorate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science (February 11).

The first activity, coordinated by the group of students, professors and researchers of Women for Science and Technology, will take place on Friday, February 10 and will be the lecture "The paradigm of soft robotics" that will be given by Concha Monje, researcher in Robotics and professor at the University Carlos III of Madrid. The session will start at 13:00 hours and will be held at auditorium of the Sciences Building of the University of Navarra.

On Saturday 11th, coinciding with the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, the Science Museum will join a live connection with four female researchers who are currently at the Spanish base in Antarctica aboard the oceanographic ship Hespérides. This activity is organized by the Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales (MNCN) and the committee Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC).  

During the connection will participate Asunción de los Ríos (microbiologist and research scientist at MNCN-CSIC), Josabel Belliure (professor of Ecology at the University of Alcalá and researcher on the conservation of Antarctic penguins), Virginia Morandini (postdoctoral researcher at MNCN-CSIC and expert in biodiversity), and 1st Sergeant Patricia Martín (Communications NCO in the 36th Antarctic Campaign of the Spanish Army). These researchers are involved in projects of the Spanish Antarctic Campaign 2022-2023. The session can be followed in person at auditorium at the University of Navarra's Ampliación de Library Services Ciencias building or online via YouTube.

After the connection with Antarctica, at 12:00 hours and in the same place, the book "Women in Science" will be presented to the public, a project of the Science Museum of the University of Navarra that aims to make visible in an entertaining way the biography of women scientists who are unknown to the general public but have marked the history of science with their discoveries and contributions: from the ingenuity of Ada Lovelaceto create the first computer thanks to a loom, to the innate curiosity of a girl like Mary Anning who discovered the dinosaurs. Thanks to the different challenges and activities in the book and links to the original videos you can learn about the history of these women and the advancement of science and technology.

The goal of this work is to bring science closer to girls and young women, to provide them with female references and to awaken scientific vocations. The book aims to be an excellent tool for the dissemination of female science for young people, families and teachers.
