"The food markets have an extraordinary richness". So said the painter Antonio López at the Ensanche Market in Pamplona. He went there to buy seasonal products to compose a still life for the 10th Masters of Figuration Painting Workshop, which he is teaching at the University of Navarra together with Juan José Aquerreta until Friday, June 10.

Among the products chosen for the still life were, above all, seasonal products: 2 pumpkins, eggplants, red peppers, hazelnuts, honey from different origins, two roasted chickens, veal and pork bones, pickles and flowers (white lilium, blue delphinium and pink peonies). "It has to be a large still life with seasonal products of different sizes, colors and textures, and it has to be appetizing to paint," said the artist.

During the tour of the Market, the masters were able to have a friendly conversation with the stall holders as well as with the citizens of Pamplona who came to greet them. In addition, the painter from Madrid said that coming to Pamplona means leaving his home and his usual work , and seeing friends whom he loves very much.

Asked about his current projects, the master said he is working on several commissions. Among them, two commissioned portraits; a view of Bilbao from the Iberdrola Tower; and a portrait of his granddaughters and a friend of theirs, "three beautiful 16-year-old girls," he pointed out. In addition, it is worth remembering that Antonio López is painting the portrait of Ángel José Gómez-Montoro, President of the University of Navarra between 2005 and 2012.

Next Wednesday, June 8, at 7 p.m. in the Museum Theater, artists Antonio Lopez and Juan Jose Aquerreta, along with Julio Lopez, also a realist, will take part in a roundtable The event will be moderated by Asunción Domeño, professor of Art History. The entrance is free of charge, with prior withdrawal of invitation at the Museum's locker until Wednesday at 18.45h.
