The reconciliation of family and professional life for female academics is the topic of the work final de Master's Degree (TFM) of Regina Guzmán, a student of the Master's Degree in research in Social Sciences of the University of Navarra (MICS). This Mexican student is carrying out the postgraduate program thanks to a scholarship from the Social Trends Institute.

To achieve a real conciliation, Regina proposes in her TFM that women's preferences be taken into account , beyond the institutional or social approach . She admits that "many women consider that in order to fulfill themselves they need to develop their professional careers rather than start a family, as was thought in the past".

Regina considers that, despite the fact that the topic of work-life balance is gaining more and more importance, there is still not much scientific literature focused on female academics. "I would like these women to feel supported and, above all, heard because this, precisely, is the origin of all work-life balance problems in academia: not being heard," she laments.

Combining multiple roles

The MICS student proposes a change of mentality in society to recognize that "women are capable of playing multiple roles in internship ". To this end, she will analyze how academics, women and mothers have achieved the 'magic formula' to combine these roles and develop staff and professionally.

The MICS is coordinated by the Institute for Culture and Society (ICS) and counts with the direct partnership of the Schools of Communication, Law, Education and Psychology, Nursing, and Philosophy and Letters. It is accredited by the National Agency for Assessment of Quality and Accreditation (Agencia Nacional de assessment de la Calidad y accreditation).

Social Trends Institute (STI) is a non-profit foundation based in New York with a delegation in Barcelona.
