Professors from different Schools of the University of Navarra, researchers from the high school of Science of data of the academic centre, the University of A Coruña and the University of La Rioja, together with professionals from the law firm Uría Menéndez, have collaborated in the edition of the Treatise on Digital Lawa publication that deals with the set of rules that establish requirements and limits on the processing of digital data ; and regulate relations between people through data, transmitted by electronic means in different fields. The content of this treatise is not exclusively legal but includes the analysis of fifty experts in architecture, Economics, science of data, speech or theology to address issues such as digital taxation, cybersecurity, minors and the use of social networks, the 'digital trace' or the treatment of data in the European Union, etc.

"Today we are internet-dependent, a large part of our social relations and commercial exchanges are carried out through digital data ", explains Eduardo Valpuesta, professor and director of Master's Degree in Digital Law at the University of Navarra and coordinator of the publication. "The digital society is a total disruption. General principles must be established for the regulation of this new reality, and specific rules for each subject of data and relationships", he adds.

The Digital Law Treatise addresses the concept of digital data , the functioning of digital platforms and the regulation of actions carried out by these means and the use of data (contractual, labour, social, financial, judicial process relations, etc.). The existing rules and regulations and those under study are analysed. "There is a legal framework for some aspects (e-commerce, protection of personal data , digital identity, consumer protection...) but it must be continuously adapted for other very new realities such as crypto-assets, big data and artificial intelligence, for example. A multitude of regulatory projects are being proposed that will be rule in the coming years", Valpuesta points out.

The treatise is aimed at all professionals operating in the digital world: entrepreneurs, legal advisors, programmers, digital users, social network operators, etc. "Without realising it, every time we do something through digital media, we find ourselves in a world with specific risks: what we post on social networks can be seen by many; the website of a business must respect various rules of intellectual property, skill fair, etc.", he explains.

The edition of the Digital Law Treatise is part of a project of research which has been developed by the School of Law of the University of Navarra and which is financed by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities.

The conclusions of this project and the Treatise itself will be presented at the next congress Legal Aspects of the use of the Blockchainwhich will take place on 31 March and 1 April, in person at campus in Madrid at the University of Navarra and online.
