From Nairobi to Pamplona: A Year in Pamplona Working at the ICS's Navarra Center for International Development

A course in deep learning and research. That’s how Victor Mwangi, who holds a graduate ’s degree in Economics from Strathmore University (Nairobi, Kenya), described his experience working alongside the team at the Navarra Center for International Development at the Institute for Culture and SocietyEconomics (ICS) at the University of Navarra. After completing the Master’s in Finance ( Master's Degree ) and Economics ( ) (MEF), which opened the doors to the University of Navarra for him, Mwangi continued his research work with this team, acquiring expertise in research on issues related to his country’s development . Mwangi was able to undertake this training and research thanks to the support of the Europamundo Foundation, through the “Future Leaders in research ” program at the development in Kenya, in partnership with the Kenyan university.

During her stay, she has participated in specialized courses, seminars, and workshops and has performed both research ( research ) and support tasks related to management and academic outreach, under the supervision of the NCID team. As a result, over the past few months she has strengthened her skills in economic analysis, quantitative methods, scientific research , and communication. researcher views the experience very positively: “It has been an immense opportunity to hone my research skills in an intellectually stimulating environment.”

In this regard, she emphasizes that “interacting with researchers from different backgrounds, attend attending seminars, and participating in academic debates has allowed me to ask myself new questions and learn about different methodological approaches. I have also enjoyed the warmth and friendliness of my colleagues at the NCID and the ICS.”

International environment

His time at the ICS has also had a significant impact on his career. “I now have a deeper understanding of economic theory, the data analysis , and academic writing. Furthermore, on a professional level, this experience has helped me develop an international perspective, feel comfortable working in a multicultural academic environment, and has also strengthened my ability to communicate the results of research to different audiences—something that is especially useful for carrying out my research and teaching responsibilities in Kenya.”

Now back in Nairobi, Mwangi plans to continue focusing his professional degree program on the topics he has been working on at the NCID, related to the Economics of Kenya and other African countries. “I will continue collaborating with researchers at the NCID and the ICS on projects related to artificial intelligence and academia. In addition, I will be teaching at Strathmore University, an experience I am very much looking forward to. In the long term, I hope to conduct programs of study of doctorate and continue to strengthen my training and my skills as an researcher.”
