The School of Canon Law of the University of Navarra has launched a MOOC focused on "The implementation of compliance in Church entities". The course, taught by Professor Diego Zalbidea, is free of charge and, although it began on October 21, registration is still open.

Organized around five modules, it aims to suggest a possible application of compliance programs to Church entities. The legislative reform that has made possible the criminal liability of legal entities in certain cases has set off alarm bells in all organizations. However, compliance goes much further: it is the need to implement programs that ensure compliance with the rules, but also with the internal values and principles of any entity.

According to Professor Zalbidea, compliance has become one of the most relevant legal phenomena in the civil sphere in recent years, so "it is an extraordinary possibility for the Church". He recalls that it will allow it to develop its mission statement in a more coherent and dynamic way: "It is not a question of changing our way of administering and managing assets, but of reflecting on and taking advantage of the processes and experiences that are working in similar entities".

The course is also attended by professors from Criminal Law, Ecclesiastical, as well as experts in consultancy service and counseling with a long trajectory in the subject.

The MOOC may be of interest to those who have some responsibility for the governance and administration of ecclesiastical entities, from bishops to members of financial councils. No prior knowledge of Canon Law or Economics is required.
