The School of Sciences celebrates the Day of the patron saint

Students, professors and employees of the School of Sciences of the University of Navarra celebrated the feast of St. Albert the Great.

The School of Sciences of the University of Navarra celebrated the day of its patron saint, Saint Albert the Great, with a workshop in which students, professors and employees of the academic center were able to enjoy a program of activities that included the submission of the extraordinary prizes at the end of degree program, a pictorial exhibition by the fourth year Biology student Íñigo Saldaña, the launching of an Energy expense Awareness Campaign carried out by the Environmental Volunteers and the lecture "Experiments with Poles" at position by the former student Ignacio Oficialdegui.

Thus, at the event were awarded Pablo Monreal, award Extraordinary End of degree program of Degree in Chemistry; Alejandra Uriz, award Extraordinary End of degree program in Biology; and Jon Lerga, award Extraordinary of Biochemistry . In addition, Verónica Delgado obtained the award of the doctoral program in Biology and Environment; and María Elizalde and Andoni Lancha, for the doctoral program in research Biomedical.

The Dean of the School, Luis Montuenga, was in charge of submit the awards and congratulated the winners who he said, "have done extraordinarily well". "I just want to encourage you to continue with the same pace and speed of Wayside Cross that you have shown so far. This is just a start, never settle." He also explained to them that the School will always be at their disposal for whatever they may need. "You are not alone because you have us but also because you have people around you that your work can help. The more extraordinary the work is, the more it serves others."

A complete program

Later, it was the turn of Ignacio Oficialdegui, graduate in Biology from the School of Sciences, who gave a lecture about his expeditions to Antarctica and the Arctic. The biologist, who is currently director of department of Projects and Offers of Acciona Energía, has participated in four expeditions, including the Spanish Transantarctic Expedition, one of the most important in history, carried out in 2005-2006 and which consolidated the tool of the wind sled for use by scientists.

Finally, the traditional School lunch, concerts and sports activities took place. Also, throughout the day and until next Wednesday, February 18, the social networking contest "Mi School Es" was launched in which students, teachers and employees can participate by sending a photo via Twitter or Facebook with the label #PatronCiencias. The winner will get a 1 TB portable hard drive.
