The business-University of Navarra Foundation managed 1,800 student internships in companies in 1999.
A total of 3,500 students from the University of Navarra completed internships at the University of Navarra
During 1999, some 3,500 students did internships at national companies and institutions through the University of Navarra. Of these, 1,800 were managed by the Foundation business-University of Navarra (FEUN) at partnership with the internship managers of the different Schools.
Biology, Communication and Dietetics and Human Nutrition were the most benefited careers, followed by Psychopedagogy, Economics and Pharmacy.
FEUN, which is responsible for connecting students and graduates with the business world at contact , has more than 1,100 companies that host interns. Statistics show that students who complete internships are three times more likely to be placed immediately after completing degree program.
In addition, FEUN (together with Careers Services) organizes each year the University of Navarra's employment Week, which in 2000 celebrated its eighth edition workshop. The main goal of this Week is to facilitate the recruitment of university students. Forty-three companies participated in the events programmed this year, which were attended by seven thousand students, compared to the six thousand who were interested in the offers of work in 1999.
The novelty of this year's edition was that seven companies selected staff directly among 400 students and graduates. In total, more than 250 internships and contracts were offered during employment 2000 Week work.
Emphasis on trainingThe University of Navarra also offers, through FEUN, courses at training, which cover three areas: training continua, for graduates and for students.
Within the training for graduates, it is worth mentioning the Preparatory for the employment. It consists of workshops on active search for work and selection interviews that improve the skills and knowledge of university students when applying for their first work (resume writing, cover letter, selection techniques, interview behavior...).
In the 1999-2000 academic year, 1,500 graduates of the University of Navarra who are looking for employment have benefited from these activities, in which Careers Services collaborates.
In addition, the courses organized by FEUN also offer internships. For example, the Higher Course of management Commercial for University Students, the ninth edition of which is about to begin, offers the possibility of internships in companies; a high percentage of its students usually continue in them and obtain their first employment.
FEUN also promotes entrepreneurship through informative sessions on business motivation, the University Entrepreneurship Course and the award Innovamás, an annual contest in which participants aspire to win up to one million pesetas.
Regarding international internships, there is the Leonardo da Vinci "Leonet research and development" 2000-2002, which is a European Union scholarship program for students and graduates who want to spend a period of internship in a European business . About 100 applications have been received so far.
It is also worth mentioning the management of the Inter-University Cooperation Program (AECI) and the "training internship of University Students. internationalization of the business Navarra".
