Dr. Matías Ávila, researcher of the area of Gene Therapy and Hepatology of the CIMA of the University of Navarra, has been appointed member of the committee advisor Scientist of the "Comprehensive Cancer Center" of Bordeaux, which belongs to the high school National Cancer Center of France. This center, recently created, is integrated by the Segalen University of Bordeaux and its university hospital. One of the priority areas of work is research on liver tumors.

Dr. Avila studies the molecular and cellular mechanisms of liver disease progression. In particular, he focuses on the identification of new protective strategies and therapeutic targets to slow down the development of cirrhosis and liver cancer. He is also Full Professor of Biochemistry of the School of Medicine of the University.

Member of the committee publishing house of Journal of Hepatology, and publisher associate of Gut, official journal of the British Society of Gastroenterology, since 2011 he is part of the board Governing association European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL).

He is also Deputy Director of Master's Degree in research Biomedical and professor of 'Molecular Pathology' in the third year of the Degree de Biochemistry .
