About 80 people attended the VII Lección Albareda-Chair Timac Agro last Monday, November 11. The protagonist on this occasion was Francisco Ortigosa, director of Geoscience Technology at Repsol who gave the lecture "From PS3 to artificial intelligence: 15 years of Digital Transformation of Geosciences in Repsol".

During the session Francisco Ortigosa was telling the attendees the technological evolution that Repsol has experienced in recent years in the field of Geosciences and that has led the company to build a business position in the deep waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

Francisco Ortigosa explained to the attendees Repsol's experience in the technological development , from seismic imaging tools -which served the company to illuminate the subsoil beneath large salt masses-, the use of supercomputers or the development of algorithms in order to find out the composition of the rocks.

Ortigosa also spoke of Repsol 's digital transformation over the last decade - which began with the use of the Play Station 3 chip and has been marked by the convergence of supercomputing and the Cloud - which has helped the company to "democratize technology" and enable more than 500 Repsol employees to use tools that were previously limited to specialists, improving efficiency, "shortening business cycles" and opening the door to innovation. "The Cloud is a tool that allows Repsol's staff to develop: creativity and innovation at work space," he said.

Ortigosa made it clear that all this digital transformation and technological development are at the service of the company "better oil and much faster", and insisted on lecture on the need for Repsol to "be open to any technology" and "have the humility to recognize at a given moment that what is being done is worthless and that we have to start from scratch".

The Albareda Lecture -Chair Timac Agro- University of Navarra brings together each year leading specialists in the field of the environment and agricultural Chemistry in order to raise awareness in society on the use of sustainable models.
