The School of Architecture of the University of Navarra opens its second Call for Proposals "project solidario". This is a call for projects promoted by students of the School of Architecture or in which students actively participate coordinated by different social organizations. It can be a solidarity project that students and professors carry out as an action of volunteer activities, or the project end of Degree of a student that for its dimension of ServiceLearning (service learning), can be taken to the internship.

Next Thursday, November 16 at 13:00 h. in the classroom Magna of the School will be presented the first activities of the course around the winner of last year's call. On the same day the deadline opens to submit the documentation for the next course and those who wish to participate must submit their projects before January 10, 2018. A jury, made up of professors from the School, a member of Architects without Borders and a representative of Tantaka, will evaluate the projects that best meet the objectives of the call.

The School, with great interest in promoting social responsibility among teachers and students, has planned to provide up to 3000 euros per year to help in the management of the projects and as support to the academic staff involved. It is especially important that the projects presented foster social initiative among students; strengthen leadership and their capacity to management; foster collaborative work ; foster Solidarity Architecture; and foster service-learning at teaching of the School.

Social unrest

The call for solidarity project of the School of Architecture is born from the social concern of the students who, for years, have carried out numerous projects. It had as its germ years ago, the field of work in Guatemala where they collaborated in the construction of housing for the disadvantaged; more recently through the solidarity time bank of the University, Tantaka, housing needs of the most disadvantaged groups are addressed. During the 2016-2017 academic year, the project Building their Future (PFG of architect Clara Purroy) gave new impetus to solidarity by getting more than 100 students to participate in the construction of an experimental module outside the School, so that during that same summer the high school was built in Kenya.

The project "Urban regeneration with sustainability criteria in informal settlements", was the winner of the first call. During the 2017-2018 academic year, the School will support different actions aimed at its implementation.
