More than 140 international researchers will address the relationship between cancer, obesity and metabolism at the university

Experts from 13 countries will meet quotation at a scientific meeting organised by the research center in Nutrition of the University of Navarra and the Journal of Physiology and Biochemistry.

quotation More than 140 experts and researchers in the area of the physiopathology of obesity, nutrition and oncology will meet tomorrow, 16 June, at a scientific meeting organised by the research center in Nutrition (CIN) of the University of Navarra and the specialised journal Journal of Physiology and Biochemistry.

The meeting, under degree scroll Frontiers in Cancer, Obesity and Metabolism, will address the latest research on the relationship between cancer, metabolism and obesity, and will be held in person, at auditorium of Sciences Building (Hexagon Building), and online.

"Obesity is a complex disease of multifactorial origin that has reached epidemic proportions all over the world", highlights Dr. María Jesús Moreno Aliaga, member of the organising committee , director of the area of Nutrition and Molecular Metabolism of the CIN, and researcher at IdiSNA and CIBERobn. "It predisposes to the development of several non-communicable diseases such as diabetes subject 2, cardiovascular diseases, and also certain types of cancer, such as colorectal, breast, endometrial, and liver cancer, among others".

Therefore, "the goal of this seminar is to present the results of their research in these areas by leading experts," says Dr. Pilar Lostao, researcher at CIN and editor of the Journal of Physiology and Biochemistry. "In addition, the multidisciplinarity of the scientists will provide a great wealth of knowledge exchange ", she adds.

A meeting multidisciplinary

The workshop will feature experts from various disciplines who work in different centres, many of them associated with research center Biomedica at network Physiopathology of Obesity and Nutrition (Ciberobn) and Cancer (Ciberonc). Among the speakers will be Guadalupe Sabio (CNIC, Madrid), award Prince of Girona in Science and Academia, and a national reference in the promotion of women in science.

In addition, research results will be presented by Drs. Victoria Catalán (Clínica Universidad de Navarra), Ana Belén Crujeiras (high school de research Sanitaria de Santiago de Compostela), Estefanía Toledo (Preventive Medicine and Public Health, University of Navarra), Pilar Lostao (CIN, University of Navarra), Daniel Ajona (Cima University of Navarra) and José Ángel Martínez-Climent (Cima University of Navarra).
