We are all migrants away from our place

Last Tuesday, October 7, 2025, the Master's Degree in Personnel Management Service and Organizations (MDPO) welcomed Jordi Casas, Chief People Officer (CPO) of DKV Seguros, a Human Resources professional with an international background spanning Asia, North America and Europe. His diverse experience reflects a global view of the world and a deep understanding of people and organizations.

The session entitled "My experience managing people" combined reflection and reality, Philosophy of life and talent management . Casas began his speech with a powerful idea: "think about contact before you need it". He stressed that human relationships are not improvised, but are built with attention and time. He also emphasized that one of the keys to building trust is to treat people as adults, remembering also that "choice is very important", as it implies both responsibility and freedom.

Throughout his talk, he shared two phrases that summary his vital and professional approach : " training is useless if there is no transformation" and "we all need a toolbox". As he explained, this "toolbox" is not only related to what you do, but also to the way you challenge yourself to achieve your goals. His message invited reflection on howstaff and professional development transcends PowerPoints or metrics: it is about growing, connecting and adapting to different environments, both in the workplace and on the staff.

The speaker also reflected on the energy that each person projects: "we all have light, love and strength, but the real challenge is in how we reach that and how we connect with others from that point". He added that every time someone gives, they decide; and when they decide, they empower, although he reminded that "without power, you cannot empower".

In the final, Jordi Casas conveyed a message that goes beyond Human Resources: to transform, there must be growth; and to create culture, it is necessary to have real values and behaviors. His speech, direct and close, showed that being close to the business does not depend on titles, but on skills, empathy and action.

Thanks to Jordi Casas for reminding us that people are not managed, they are accompanied, and that, in this global world, we are all, in some way, immigrants looking for our place.
