The President of the University of Navarra, Alfonso Sánchez - Tabernero, has appointed Luis Montuenga Badía Dean of the School of Sciences. He replaces Ignacio López - Goñi, who had been in this position since 2005, at position .

Dr. Montuenga is Full Professor of Cell Biology at the Schools of Science and Medicine, and researcher senior at the research center Applied Medicine of the University of Navarra (CIMA). At the campus of Pamplona he graduated in Science with award Extraordinary (1981), where four years later he obtained his PhD. In 1989 and 1990 he carried out programs of study Postgraduate Studies at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School of the Hammersmith Hospital in London (UK) and, from 1995 to 1998, he was researcher visitor at the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health of the United States (USA). From 2007 to 2011 he was Vice President of research at the University of Navarra. His research focuses on the search for new molecular tools for the diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer. He is the author of more than 120 articles, has directed 18 doctoral thesis and has given numerous national and international conferences and seminars.

Until a few months ago he directed the area Oncology CIMA. With the restructuring, he became director of Technological Platforms and of the Solid Tumors and Biomarkers Program. Dr. Montuenga will continue to do research at CIMA and to direct Technological Platforms. The new director of the Solid Tumors and Biomarkers Program is Prof. Rubén Pío.

Office of the Executive Council is grateful for the nine years of government of Professor Ignacio López Goñi.
