Professor María Blanco Prieto, professor at School of Pharmacy and Nutrition of the University of Navarra, has been elected member of Academia Europaea for her important contributions to Biomedical Sciences, particularly in the field of nanomedicine applied to cancer treatment and regenerative medicine. Of the 233 members of the section of which Dr. Blanco is a member (Clinical and Veterinary Sciences), only nine are Spanish.

Founded in 1988, the European Academy of Humanities, Letters and Sciences aims to goal the advancement and propagation of excellence in subject of Humanities, law, economic, social and political sciences, mathematics, medicine and all branches of the natural and technological sciences. It also promotes European research and provides advice to governments and international organizations on scientific subject and research multidisciplinary . Its members are international leaders in their fields of knowledge, including more than eighty Nobel Laureates in different disciplines.

Professor María Blanco is the author of more than 150 articles in scientific journals, 5 patents, 19 chapters in different specialized books and more than 200 communications in congresses, many of them as speaker invited. Her H index is 52 and her papers have been cited more than 8700 times. She has directed 20 doctoral thesis and has been principal investigator of 35 projects. She is an expert for the European Commission in the area of nanomedicine and evaluator in several national and international organizations.

In addition, she is a member of committee publishing house of several scientific journals, including "Cancer Letters" and "Journal of Controlled Release" and a corresponding academic of the National Academy of Pharmacy of France and that of Galicia. In 2018, she joined the board board of the committee Executive of the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Scientists, of which she is the vice-president since January 2021. She is part of the committee of experts of the Agency for the Quality of the University System of Castilla y León, of the ACREDITA commission of National Agency for Assessment of Quality and Accreditation and is president of the Spanish Society of Industrial and Galenic Pharmacy.

In February 2022, he was inducted into the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE), one of the most important associations in the biomedical engineering sector based in Washington DC.
