The students, accompanied by their teachers, were able to enjoy informative sessions on science, as well as experimental workshops, which took place from November 11 to 15 at the Sciences Building of the University of Navarra.
In total, 1.200 attendees from nineteen schools in Navarra, La Rioja, Alava, Madrid, Soria and Burgos: IES Julio Caro Baroja, high school Luis Amigó, FEC Vedruna, IES Berriozar, International School of Navarra, high school Irabia-Izaga, high school Liceo Monjardín, IES Padre Moret-Irubide, high school San Cernin, IES Ibaialde, IES Barañain, high school Notre Dame, high school Hijas de Jesús, high school Carmelitas Sagrado Corazón (Vitoria), high school Marianistas (Logroño), high school El Prado (Madrid), high school Maristas San José (Logroño), IES Castilla (Soria) and high school Sagrados Corazones (Miranda de Ebro).
Participants were able to enjoy informative sessions on different branches of science: "You really are what Genetics wants you to be!", "The human being in nature", "The hidden world of insects", "Artificial intelligence in science" and "Drugs: would you let your brain deteriorate before its time?".
The School of Sciences has also organized informative scientific workshops adapted to the ESO syllabus and high school diploma: biology -methods and tools for the study of wildlife; geology -demonstration and explanation of the properties and curiosities of different types of rocks and minerals-; microbiology -the microorganisms that surround us-, insects -characteristics of these small animals-; Chemistry thermosensitive and photosensitive materials, fluorescence and phosphorescence-; Genetics -use of STR sequences for genetic profiling used in forensic science-; physics -functioning of RFID and FNC cards that we use in everyday life such as in cars, garbage containers, access to the University, access to hotel rooms, etc.
On the other hand, on Saturday, November 16, more than sixty students from the 1st and 2nd years of high school diploma participated in the workshop Open Doors and Science Experimentation, in a workshop organized for students interested in Degrees Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry and Environmental Sciences, as well as the double Degrees Biology+Environmental Sciences and Chemistry+Biochemistry . The participants carried out internships at the laboratory on microbiology, Genetics and management of waste while their companions received information about the academic programs of the School, Internship Service and employment, scholarships and accommodation.
And on Tuesday, November 19, sixty students from five schools of the Comunidad Foral will participate in the "Forensic Science", a project promoted by Forensic Science School in partnership with the national police, School of Sciences and the University of Navarra. School of Architecture of the University of Navarra, in which a police research will be carried out on the recreation of a crime.
Science and biodiversity, a cycle for all audiences
On the other hand, more than 190 people attended the lecture series on "Science and Biodiversity" organized by the Science Museum of the University of Navarra (November 12, 14 and 15), which dealt with topics such as insects, urban biodiversity and biomimicry.
In addition, the Museum also organized last Thursday 14th a dinner with science at the restaurant El high school, where 64 diners enjoyed an evening with good food, humor and live experiments, with the participation of Ignacio López-Goñi, director of the Science Museum, the chef Álex Múgica, and professors and doctoral students of the School of Sciences of the University of Navarra.
