The genius of painting Diego Velázquez will be the protagonist of the new edition of the lecture series Francisco Calvo Serraller, organized by the School of Philosophy and Letters of the University of Navarra and the Friends of the Prado Museum Foundation. The meetings will take place on Wednesdays, January 27, February 10, 17 and 24 at the Theater of the Museum of the University of Navarra.

The sessions will be given by some of the most important specialists on Velázquez and his time. Javier Portús, head of Conservation of Spanish Painting until 1800 at the Museo del Prado; Bonaventura Bassegoda, Full Professor of Art History at the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona; Fernando Marías, Full Professor of Art History at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid; and Jaime García-Máiquez, technician of the Technical Documentation Office of the Museo del Prado, will approach the figure of the painter from different perspectives. From his hand, participants will explore the fundamental episodes and scenarios of his biography, his self-awareness as a courtier, his clientele, or the artistic and collecting context in which he developed his degree program. They will also delve into the relationship he maintained with the main pictorial genres and the narrative, compositional and stylistic resources that explain why he was one of the most singular artists of his time and one of the most influential in the last two and a half centuries.

The thematic proposal of this edition, which has the support of Viscofán and the partnership of the Museum and the Fundación Diario de Navarra, takes over from the conferences on works by Velázquez held in the annual courses organized by the Fundación de Amigos del Prado in 1999, on the occasion of the fourth centenary of the painter's birth. Two decades later, this one, conceived as a continuation and complement of the previous one, is being held.

The general price of the complete cycle is 60 euros, with a special price of 48 euros for different groups. There is also the possibility of attend to individual sessions, at a price of 20 euros (prior registration and withdrawal of tickets is required). Registrations can be made on the website or locker of the Museum.
