On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Chair of Heritage and Art of Navarre of the School of Philosophy and Letters of the University of Navarra, a cultural activity took place in the Royal Collegiate Church of Roncesvalles that combined music and research and historical dissemination, to rediscover, through art, daily life, hunting, and the extraordinary events lived secularly in Roncesvalles, with the sounds of the organ. In this way, the rich heritage of one of the most symbolic places in Navarre was revealed in a multidisciplinary way.
Under the degree scroll "Art and music in the bowels of Roncesvalles", the event combined an organ concert with a series of commentaries on themes such as the bells, the pilgrims, the September festivities, the titular image or different aspects of daily life, such as the extreme climate, which made famous the saying "eight months of hell and four months of hell". Those in charge of leading the attendees in this immersive experience were the organist of the Cathedral of Pamplona, Julián Ayesa, and the director of the Chair of Heritage and Art of Navarre, Ricardo Fernández Gracia.
Thus, the public was able to enjoy a sensory and intellectual journey through works that evoke from the spirituality of the pilgrims to the festivals and battles that marked the history of the Kingdom. Among other pieces, they could listen to The Winter, by Vivaldi; Echo of the valley, by José Mª Beobide; In the garden of a monastery, by Ketelbey; Minuet of the March for the entrance of the Kingdom; the Sonata for organ, by Bellini, or the Variations on the Magnificat by Miguel Echeveste.
The event, organized by the Chair of Patrimony and Art of Navarre and Diario de Navarra, counted with the partnership the Royal Collegiate Church of Roncesvalles.
