The 15 students that make up the second graduating class of the degree scroll of Expert in Cutaneous Oncologic Surgery finished on Saturday June 15 their training at the School of Medicine of the University of Navarra with the defense of their final papers degree scroll and the closing ceremony.
The course, developed at partnership with Cantabria Labs, has been taught in a hybrid way, both online and with monthly face-to-face sessions at Campus of the University of Navarra in Madrid, and has lasted 8 months. During this period, students have acquired an updated and detailed vision of cutaneous oncologic surgery, covering both melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers, providing them with an additional specific training and internship in cutaneous cancer surgery. The training, divided into different modules of knowledge, has been position by ten specialists from different Spanish centers.
Thanks to the clinical case methodology and innovative tools, the internship approach has allowed students to develop solid criteria to decide the best surgical options for excision and reconstruction in various anatomical units. The training included an obligatory workshop in the operating rooms of the Clínica Universidad de Navarrawhere students were able to work on the design of skin flaps and grafts with the goal to obtain the best oncologic, functional and esthetic results.
The goal of the program has been to prepare specialists to approach the surgical treatment of skin tumors from the initial oncologic approach to the complete reconstruction of the defect resulting from surgery. This comprehensive training ensures that professionals are trained to provide high quality, state-of-the-art care to their patients.
