The group de research Siglo de Oro (GRISO) of the University of Navarra organized, together with the high school Spanish y Leonés de la language, a a course focusing on a single topic on Quevedo. The activity, directed by Ignacio Arellano, director of the GRISO, and Gonzalo Santonja, director of high school, was held in El Burgo de Osma (Soria) and took place within the XXIII Summer University Courses of the University of Santa Catalina.

The classes, which analyzed different aspects of the life and work of Francisco de Quevedo, were attended by specialists from Spanish and American universities. Professors Ignacio Arellano, from the University of Navarra, spoke about Quevedo's love poetry and festive prose; and Carlos Mata Induráin, who spoke about "The Quevedos of fiction", that is, about the different literary works in which, over the centuries, Quevedo has intervened as a fictional character.

More than thirty students from Spain, Italy, Holland, France, Norway, Mexico, Peru and Chile participated in the international course.

A agreement and various activities

This session was a continuation of the one held in Pamplona days before, entitled "Quevedo: life and work" (XII Higher Course on Literature Malón de Echaide, Summer Courses of the Universities of Navarre). It was also framed in the partnership agreement maintained by the GRISO and the high school Spanish y Leonés de la language, agreement which has led to several activities in recent years, such as the co-organization of some conferences on Tirso de Molina or the publication of several books.

The next activity promoted by both institutions will be the I congress Ibero-Asian Hispanists Golden Age and General Hispanism, to be held at the University of Delhi (India) from November 9 to 12, 2010.
