Natalia Arias-Casais, from the ICS, stays in Germany to research on the development of palliative care in Europe.

After his stay at Bonn University Hospital, he will defend his thesis with accredited specialization from doctorate .

Natalia Arias-Casais, from the ATLANTES Program of the Institute for Culture and Society of the University of Navarra, develops a research stay at the University Hospital of Bonn (Germany) between July and September 2019 to study the trends of development of palliative care in Europe, in addition to the consumption of opioids in this region.

He stays under the supervision of Lukas Radbruch, president of the board board of the association International Association for Palliative Care and Care Centers (IAHPC), Full Professor Palliative Medicine at the University of Bonn and director of the department Palliative Medicine at the University Hospital Bonn.

"For me, the possibility of learning from different contexts and working in diverse groups of researchis very important," says Natalia Arias-Casais. "I believe that this forges personal skills while gaining new perspectives and approaches to research. It gives me the opportunity to continue to deepen the multidisciplinarity that I have learned at ICS."

On her return to Pamplona, she will defend her thesis and continue working at research in public health, "preferably at development in palliative care," she says. She will also begin her medical specialization program in Germany. "I hope to put the research tools and personal skills I have learned during my doctorate at the service of clinical care, academia and the solution of social and clinical problems," she declares.

Natalia Arias graduated in Medicine from the University of Cantabria and graduated from the Master's Degree in Global Health at McMaster University (Canada), with a scholarship from the British Council as a Youth Ambassador. Subsequently, she was an intern at the World Health Organization (WHO) in Washington, D.C. and then a consultant. She has also interned for the German Agency for Development Cooperation development . In 2017 she joined the ICS ATLANTES Program to develop her thesis . There she has collaborated in numerous works, such as the Atlas of Palliative Care in Europe 2019, of which she is first author.
