Anna Dulska, researcher at project 'Creativity and Cultural Heritage' of the Institute for Culture and Society of the University of Navarra, has spent two months at the University of Hamburg (Germany) to work on the culture and organizational governance of the hospital orders of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, thanks to a scholarship of the German Academic Service exchange (DAAD).

The researcher has worked with Jürgen Sarnowsky, a professor of medieval history and an expert on military orders, especially the Order of St. John of Jerusalem and the Teutonic Order. During her visit, Dulska has analyzed primary and secondary sources from both the university's Library Services and other institutions. "I was able to consult copies of documents from the archives of the Maltese National Library Services and the secret archives of the Vatican," he said.

Specifically, it focused on issues such as the manifestations of organizational culture at the level of values, rituals, symbols and practices; the forms and channels of transmission of organizational culture at the regional and central levels; the processes of adaptation of the Central Convent's hospitaller organizational culture to the regional circumstances of the priors; characteristics of the model hospitaller governance; changes in the model of organizational governance in the face of the influence of different elites; and the question of agency.

partnershipseminars and publications

The stay also allowed him to share experiences and reflections with researchers, doctoral students and students from Degree. In Hamburg he also presented the seminar 'Malitia temporis? The Order of Saint John of Jerusalem in Navarre between 14th and 15th Centuries: People, Management, Environment' in the framework of 'Circle of the Age average' "based on a book that will be published soon," he said.

The expert has described her stay as very fruitful, having had access to many sources, as well as having been able to work with Professor Sarnowsky and learn from his experience in these matters. In addition, she has collected material to get started in the topic and, once in Spain, she hopes to be able to analyze it and make scientific publications in high impact journals.
