Robert Constable, an expert in Family Therapy and professor at Loyola University in Chicago (United States), alerted families to certain dangers of television. For Constable, who participated in a doctoral course the department of Education of the University of Navarra, cartoon series such as The Simpsons "do not benefit children, since they present them with a false reality".

In his opinion, the problem with this subject of cartoon series lies in the fact that they present a reality where "everyone can become a star, where each character can do whatever he wants". Thus, "although Bart Simpson has feelings and, for example, cries, he presents a model of reality in which the whole world revolves around him".

But in addition, according to Professor Constable, the other members of the family are not a desirable example for children, as is the case of Homer, "a father who does not know how to develop his paternal role". In final, for the expert in Family Therapy, "The Simpsons are a set of individualities in a family without relationships, that is, a sick family".

He explained that the danger of these series is that children believe what they see in the cartoons. The American professor compared these "stereotypes created by Hollywood" with the myth of Plato's Republic. Thus, "the cartoons would be the images projected on the wall of the cave, and people would only see these shadows of reality, without realizing that they have been created by the market, with the sole purpose of making money".

Violence in schools

Robert Constable criticized certain media "whose eagerness to make money causes them to appeal to people's baser instincts". The professor asked Spanish families to learn to limit television consumption, so that "it does not colonize family life".

In addition, "television is related to violence, a reality that has been more than demonstrated in the United States". This violence is due, among other reasons, to "America's multicultural diversity and legal gun ownership". According to Constable, violence is on the decline, as is happening in schools.

Precisely, this response to school violence is due to "cooperation between families and schools". Thus, he warned that "the responsibility in the Education of the child lies with the parents and the school". The professor pointed out that one of the errors of the family is to believe that "the socialization of the family corresponds exclusively to the educational center". Robert Constable predicted that if parents do not assume their role, "the child will become a little god, so that teachers will have ungovernable classes, composed of little emperors, as happens in Chinese society".
